News on electronic meal vouchers
Law no. 291/2013 for the amendment of Law no. 142/1998 for granting meal vouchers has been published within the Official Gazette no. 701 dated November 15, 2013.
According to the new legal provisions, starting February 13, 2014, employers may choose to grant electronic meal vouchers to their employees.
Thus, employees may receive a food allowance, granted in the form of meal tickets, which can be issued either on paper or electronically.
News concerning higher education graduates
Law no. 335/2013 on internship for higher education graduates has been published within the Official Gazette no. 776 dated December 12, 2013.
The Law regulates the terms and conditions under which higher education graduates can perform the 6 months internship, provided by art. 31 par. (5) of Law no. 53/2003 – Labor Code, republished
According to the new regulation, during the internship, the intern is obliged to perform work for and under the authority of an employer, natural or legal person, in exchange of a salary, based on an individual employment agreement and an internship agreement.
Furthermore, the Law sets forth, inter alia, the intern’s evaluation procedure, as well as certain rights and obligations arising from the internship agreement.
At the end of the internship, to the extent the intern does not meet the internship requirements, following the evaluation procedure, the individual employment agreement may be terminated only by a written notification, upon the initiative of either party, without any motivation nor any prior notice.
